LIBRARY BOOKS STOLEN
Found last night in the central library hiding small books in his clothing, Stanley James Douglas, presser, 36, was kept under observation and the police were informed. He pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court today to stealing four books valued at £1 5s from the public library and six books from a book club, and was fined £2 on each charge by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M. Senior-Ser-geant G. Paine said that in a statement to the police on the library theft the accused admitted that between February 1 and August 4 he had stolen six books from a book club, of which he was a member. His custom was, when returning a book, to take another one without the knowledge of the attendant.
