NEW CALEDONIA
The equivalent of £10,000, New Zealand currency, went through the totalisator at the second big race meeting which has been held for the New Zealanders in' this island. The first meeting, a month ago, had put through £5000, but its fame .spread throughout the camps and more men than ever have had the chance of spending an enjoyable, if in many cases unprofitable, Saturday afternoon. . Six races of from four furlongs to one mile were held. Many new horses had been gathered in for the occasion, all of them untried. Successful jockeys were W. Kidd and W. Gaddes, who each won two races. One horse, Indomitable, racing for Brigadier L. Potter, was the winner over six furlongs and later over one mile, the jockeys being R. J. Donachy and N. McGuire.
