News emanating from Germany via Denmark includes the text of an illegal leaflet circulated throughout Berlin. "Just imagine what would, happen to Germany if Hitler were a captive in the mountain fortress of Berchtesgaden and all,the other Nazi dignitaries were behind lock and key. Dr. Goebbels, the Press, and the radio minimise the importance of the events in Italy, but just imagine the workers in Berlin, Hamburg, and other German industrial centres laying down their tools' and marphing, shouting 'We want peace.' Imagine the workers breaking into the luxurious castles and villas of the Nazis dogs and wrecking them. Imagine the 'Volkischer Beobachter' appearing as a democratic daily. Imagine thousands.of Gestapo prisoners freed by the masses—imagine all that and then you will know what is happening in Italy."
