BRITAIN'S ALLY
WHERE TURKEY STANDS
FRANK STATEMENT
(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) Rec. 12.30 p.m. LONDON, August 4.
The Turkish Ambassador to Britain, Mr. Orbay, who returned from a visit to Ankara today, told the ''Daily Mail" that Turkey was fully an ally of ; Britain, although she was not fighting in the field.
This is the first time that a Turkish Minister has made such a frank "statement on relations between Turkey and Britain.
"Public opinion in Turkey holds strongly to the alliance which1 binds that . country to Britain," said Mr. Orbay. "We never faltered in this attitude at the time when many other countries. thought the war was going badly for you. The Turkish Government signed its alliance with Britain and France after the war began. The collapse of France might have justified Turkey in asking for revision - of the arrangement. She did not do that, nor, after the Germans swept down from the Balkans, did Turkey waver in her fidelity. I find my people at home rather puzzled by the fact. that the British Press frequently refers to Turkey as neutral."
