L. Stout, S.M. The machine was one of twenty-two consigned from New York to Wellington, but only twenty-one were tallied off the ship. Mr. W. B. Brown appeared for the accused. RECEIVING DENIED. Norris Charles Avery, tailor, 51 (Mr. D. Perry), pleaded not guilty to receiving the machine on June 4, knowing it to have been .stolen, and he was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed in each case. TWO CHANGES OF NAME When John Lucas Martin, seaman, 29, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court today to two charges of using another name in breach of the Change of Name Emergency Regulations, 1939, a charge of failing to report to the military authorities, laid against him in the name of Jack Leo Martin, was withdrawn. Senior-Sergeant G. Paine said the accused had made a rod for his own back. A warrant had been issued against him in the name of Jack Leo Martin for failure to present himself for medical examination, and at that time he was serving three months' gaol at Napier under the name of John Lucas Martin for failure to enrol. He had changed his name to Jack Leo Martin because he did not like "Lucas," and afterwards he went by the name of John Lucas. The accused was fined £5 on one charge by Mr. J, L. Stout, S.M., and was convicted and discharged on the other. WE make Lino or Half-tone Blocks for all purposes and all papers from the cheapest newsprint to the finest art.
