TWO AMENDMENTS

The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill was reported back to, the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon by the Labour Bills.: Committee with two amendments of a minor character.
The first amendment widens the scope o,f the clause providing protection for employees who take part in union proceedings by also making it an offence for an employer to dismiss or reduce in status an employee who takes any part in any claim under an award, order, or agreement, supports any claim, or gives evidence in proceedings under the principal Act. The other amendment is a clarification of the clause giving unions and employees the right to recover money payable to an employee by taking action as if for a penalty for breach of award or agreement. The amendment makes it clear that action may be taken either in the Magistrate's Court or in the Court of "Arbitration for this purpose.
MAN-POWER IN SHIPYARDS P.A. , AUCKLAND, August 3. One hundred and twenty appeals by shipbuilding firms on behalf of shipbuilders, shipwrights, and carpenters were adjourned sine die today by the Armed Forces Appeal Board. Mr. F. J. Cox, Crown representative, said a survey of the industry showed that it was fully extended, and a witness said that 100 more men were required immediately. '
