Wellington should be a gay place in the springtime, at least so far as the attire of its female population is concerned. Ever since Monday, when a Wellington store opened up its spring dress materials, the shop has been literally besieged. The first impression of a disinterested shopper was that there had been an accident in that particular department, but the sight of women determinedly clutching bolts of material whilst trying to get the attention of harassed shop assistants revealed the true nature of the situation. Obviously, neither coupons nor cash were in short supply, and some of the materials were as much as 15s 6d a yard.
