Allies In Sicily
PROGRESS ON BROAD FRONT
LONDON, August 3
General Alexander's 15th Army Group in Sicily is striking' into the enemy bridgehead in half a dozen points and making headway against hitter resistance. In some places the enemy has been driven back more than 10 miles on a broad front.
General Pattern's American troops are thrusting into the gap between Mt. Etna and the mountain chain-to the north. They hold Troina, and are within 20 miles of Randazzo, a vital position on the communications line running through the gap.
The Canadians, have captured Regalbuto. another important strong-point in the Mt. *Etna line. A correspondent says that United Kingdom troops took part with the Canadians in the assault on Begalbuto yesterday morning. The Canadians and British are advancing along the road which skirts Mt. Etna.
Allied forces are advancing into the western end of the Catania plain and the Eighth Army artillery before Catania is battering the enemy positions. •.
A% the otTier-end.of the line, the Americans, with San Stefano ill their, hands, are pushing along the north road.
