WORK BY PENSIONERS
Sir,—l see that the Man-power Committees are suggesting that women employed during the day are to be allowed to take up part-time work in the evenings, to help out because of the shortage of labour. May I suggest that there are hundreds of men and women, widows and the more able-bodied old age pensioners, who are ready and waiting to do their, utmost to help, but who are debarred because under the Pensions Act earnings above £1 or £ 1 10s, as the case may be, involve reduction in pension. Remove the present restrictions and the employers will have more workers to call upon, and the pensioners will have sufficient to live upon without further increase in benefits. —I am, etc.,
