CLAIMS ON BOARDS
In the course of a reply on behalf of the Harbour Boards to a statement from the secretary of the New Zealand Harbour Boards' Employees' Union, it is stated: —
"Members of Harbour Boards are well aware of the true facts. Claims amounting to £30,595 have been made oh boards throughout New Zealand by the local branches of.the employees' union under instructions from the New Zealand employees' union. Such claims are stated in writing to be made as a result of the judgment of the Court of Arbitration. .
"With reference to the statement concerning the claims for £8 12s, a day by certain employees for standing by at home 'on call' on statutory holidays and Sundays, the Wellington Harbour Board says that such claims were made in writing on the board by the employees' union (Wellington branch) and the covering letter with such claims from the employees' union stated that the claims were made 'under the recent decision of the Arbitration Court."
RUGBY
J. Gilmour (Auckland) and D. Herman (Canterbury) are the captains of the respective teams for the inter-Is-land Rugby match at Wellington next week. The North Island vice-captain is G. Delamore (Manawatu), and T. C. Morrison (South Canterbury) was to have been the Souths deputy-leader but he is not now available c ing to an injury and has been replaced in the side by J. Kerr (Canterbury). The team managers are to be Mr. H. Murphy (South) and the Rev. Rather Cleary (North).
Confirmation of September 18 as the date for the Wellington-Auckland match (at Auckland) and of September 25 for the Canterbury-Wellington match (at Wellington) was received at last night's meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union's management committee,- It was reported that arrangements were well in hand for the interIsland match on August 14. The New Zealand Union intimated that It could not accede to a request for special admission privileges being granted to club secretaries.
Permission. was granted Rongotai College to play matches with Wairarapa and Horowhenua Colleges, and the Stratford Technical High School, and for the Audit Department to play the Public Trust on August 14.
