PEACE FEELERS

REPORT ABOUT HUNGARY

ASSURANCE TO YUGOSLAVIA (By Telesraiili—Press Association—CopyriKht.) Rec. 12.15 p.m. LONDON, July 28. Hungary, which is putting out peace i'eelers through Turkey, has informed the Yugoslav Government that she will not make territorial claims against Yugoslavia but will give up a strip of Yugoslav territory which was annexed in 1914, says the diplomatic correspondent of the British United Press. . He adds that similar moves are expected from Bulgaria and Rumania. Germany's satellites in the Balkans now do not expect German victory; they anticipate a German withdrawal, from the Balkans to a defence line across the old Austrian-Croat frontier westwards to the River Po and thence to the west coast of Italy. The Ankara correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" predicts that within a few days Ankara will be an important diplomatic centre. Turkish official circles believe ,Italy must get out of the war and that the decision will be made soon. It is also believed that Hungary will go out of the war with Italy. Rumania hesitates whether to throw in her lot with- Italy or seek a separate peace after having a crack at Hungary. Rumania, but the Transylvanian. problem, might leave the war immediately." Unconfirmed reports state that German troops are massing at several points on the Hungarian frontier, says the Istanbul correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain. It is known, adds the correspondent, that the Germans have exerted considerable pressure on the Hungarians lately in an attempt to turn the apparent Hungarian determination to cease active participation in the war. There are no details of the disposition or numbers of German troops. Budapest radio announced that the Hungarian Cabinet met yesterday and sat until late at night, discussing current affairs. i
