F.O. H. F. B. SMITH
Flying Officer Harry F. B. Smith, who was previously reported missing on air operations, has now been officially presumed dead as on September 24, 1942. He was 24 years of age, and was educated at Gisbbrrie High School and Rongotai College. Prior to joining the R.N.Z.A.F. in 1941, he was a member
of the staff ■of Messrs. Billiards, Ltd., Wellington, and was prominent in yachting and badminton circles in Wellington. He was engaged as navigator in a crew flying Lancaster bombers, and he made many trips over occupied France and Germany, and also took part in the thousandbomber raids of August, 1942. His younger brother, Ray Smith, was killed in an aircraft accident in New Zealand in September, 1940. His brother is Mr. A. D. Smith, Rongotai, now serving with the R.N.Z.A.F., and his sisters are Mrs. C. T. Morgan (Miramar) and Mrs. E. P. Reader (Khandallah).
