PLEASURE TO ALL

PARTY FOR DISABLED MEN Among the happiest people in Wellington last night were undoubtedly those who filled the Victoria League's comfortable, club room in the D.I.C. Building. They were disabled men of the Second N.Z.E.F. and the members of the league their hostesses. It was the second occasion on which the Victoria League has entertained disabled servicemen at a buffet tea, and, although the first party was a tremendous success, the second gained by the fact that many of the guests were visiting the club for the second time and were already known to their hostesses. It would be difficult to say who most enjoyed the party, the men or those whose privilege it was to entertain them. The majority of the men were patients from the Wellington Hospital, and a large number of them were on crutches or had limbs in plaster. They were brought to the party by members of the Red Cross Transport Corps. After the serving of a buffet meal, which the catering committee had spent all day preparing, girls of the Victoria League concert party sang songs and gave selections from their show in an entirely informal way, and there were competitions and com- [ munity singing. There was a spontaneity and homeliness "about the' party that made it thoroughly delightful. In the absence of Mrs. J. A. Doctor, the president, Mrs. L. O. H. Tripp welcomed the men and thanked the Second N.Z.E.F. Association for its co-opera-tion in issuing invitations and arranging transport. On behalf of the guests, Mr. Anderson, of the Second N.Z.E.F. Association, thanked the league. Mr. Andei'son said he had enjoyed the hospitality of the Victoria League throughout the world, and he paid tribute to the splendid work it was doing. The party ended early as the men had to return to the hospitals before 9 o'clock, but before they left supper was served. The league already has plans under way for another party next month.
