LACK OF RESISTANCE

CANADIANS SURPRISED

LONDON. July 14. A Canadian Press representative, ! Ross Munro. cabling" from Ispica, in Sicily, on July 12, says that "The lack of determined resistance is surprising even to our divisional staff. On Monday morning, Modica, 10 miles northwest of Ispica, surrendered to Cana-! dian infantry. General Dhavel and the staff of the 206 th Coastal Division were taken prisoners. Hundreds more prisoners are pouring in. With the capture of Ispica, Pozzalo. and Rosolini, th e Canadians captured the principal towns of south-eastern Sicily. The infantry are advancing at incredible speed, and it is practically impossible to keep in touch with their moves. Our casualties are at a minimum.'"
