EXAMPLE OF SERVICE
Particular reference to the work ot the Merchant Navy was made by the Dominion president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, Mi*. W. W. Mulholland, in his address to the annual conference of the union today. "With a hei-oism that is of the highest quality, they carry on facing risks of terrible hardships and death," he said. "Without their service, defeat would long since have overtaken us. Without their devotion, we. in New Zealand, would not be unaware that there is a war on. but would be experiencing conditions beside which the~hardships oil any slump or depression would be a mere circumstance. We give all honour to the Merchant Navy. "In the face of heroism and devotion to duty such as this, is there any difficulty that we, who are privileged to remain in this peaceful haven, have to face that we will not face cheerfully and with a determination to do our part to the fullest?"
