TRAINS DELAYED
RESULT OF HEAVY RAIN
"The heavy rain affected train services. Slips between Utiku and Marigaweka and speed restrictions due to several other small slips and flood waters delayed a relief express from Auckland, and the Limited which followed it yesterday, and both trains were two hours late at Marton. The Limited was further delayed by the overflow of a stream, and was held at IJunterville, arriving at Wellington two and a half hours late yesterday morning. • The Main Trunk.was cleared again yesterday, but slips near the Poro-o-Tarao tunnel and between Ohingaiti and Mangaweka today caused delays which made the Limited from Auckland, due at 9.30 a.m., over four and a half hours late at Wellington. At 2.5 pan., when the Limited arrived, all district lines were clear.
The Napier express, delayed by slips in the Manawatu Gorge, was 3 hours and 10 minutes late yesterday.
