OTAKI CANDIDATE '
The National Party candidate for the Otaki seat is Mr. B. V. Cooksley, a market gardener. He is a returned soldier <of the last war, in-which he rose from a private to commissioned rank in the field, and in which also he won the Military Medal. Mr. Cooksley has had farming and business experience. After the last war he was farming with his father in Hawke's Bay. following which he was in business for some years in Wellington. Since then he has been engaged for ten years in market gardening. He is president of the Dominion Council of Commercial Growers, and is their representative on the executives of the New Zealand Farmers' Union and the Farmers' Federation. He rejoined th.. Army when Japan1 entered the war and was on the training staff at Trentham. _He was engaged for a time at the request of the then Minister of Primary Production in addressing growers throughout New Zealand to secure their fullest co-operation in producing more vegetables for the Armed Forces, particularly . for canning for overseas use. At present Mr. CooKsley, who held the rank of captain, is on leave without pay from the Army.
