GENERAL ELECTION
NATIONALIST CANDIDATES
Additional National Party candidates are announced as follows. —
Wairarapa.—Mr. J. J. Maher: A wellknown farmer of Mangaroa Valley, Upper Hutt. Mr. Maher has been a resident of the district all his life, and is chairman of the Wellington Primary Production Council. He has been a member of various local bodies and an active member of the Farmers' Union, and is well-known as a forceful speaker. Hamilton. —Mr. Frank Findlay: Mr. Findlay is a master baker'in Hamilton, and is chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board. He topped the poll at the borough council elections in 1941, and is now deputy-mayor. Riccarton.—Mr. J. T. Watts: Mr. Watts is a lawyer in Christcliurch, and is a young married man with several children., He was recently released from the Army. « , , ~r Invercargill.—Lieutenant-Colonel W. Bell: Colonel Bell went overseas with ! the Main Body in 1914, served in Egypt, Gallipoli and in France, and in March, 1918, was severely wounded, his. left leg having to be amputated. He has given many years' seiyice on: school committees, the Education Board, and is chairman of the Southland High School Board. He is also a member of the R.SA. and during the present war has been connected with the Home Guard since its inception, and was commander for'Tthe No. 12 Area.
LYTTELTON SEAT
PA. CHRISTCHURCH, July 8. Mr E B. E. Taylor, who contested the Westland seat in 1938, has been chosen as the official National Party candidate for the Lyttelton seat. Mr. Taylor, who is a barrister and solicitor is the son of the late Mr. T. E. Taylor, M.P. for Christchurch North for many years and also Mayor of Christchurch. Including the sitting member, Mr. McCbmbs, there are now four candidates for the Lyttelton- seat. The People's Movement is sponsoring an Independent, Mr. H. Bliss. The. Real Democracy Movement's candidate is Mr. L. A. Jarden. The Democratic Soldier ■ Labour Party is calling for nominations, and their selection will make a fifth candidate for the seat.
WFI.LINGTON CENTRAL SEAT
Asked today whether the Democratic Labour Party would contest the Wellington Central seat, Mr. F. M. "Earle, the secretary, stated that the party would not be putting up a candidate but was asking its supporters to assist "a particular candidate."
