TRAMS HELD UP
MISHAPS AT BUSY PERIOD
Many tramcars and much other traffic were held up through a collision between a tram and a motor truck near the Kelburn cable car stop on Lambton Quay at 8.45 a.m. today. The truck backed out from the kerb in the path of the tram, which could not be pulled up in time to avoid hitting the rear of the truck. The front of the tram was considerably damaged on the left side, and the glass shattered, and the rear part of the truck was also damaged. Neither the motorman nor the driver of the truck was injured. It was some time before the line could be cleared, and in the meantime tram and other traffic proceeding north banked up as far back as Manners Street. Traffic was re-routed down Lower Cuba Street, until the line was clear.
A mishap occurred to the undergear of a city-bound tramcar in Park Road, Miramar, near Miramar Avenue, shortly before 7.30 a.m. today, and the hold-up necessitated the transferring of passengers, the other trams travelling to and from the terminus and the junction having to return from the scene of the accident on the same track for some distance. It was a particularly busy period for tram traffic, but the delay to passengers was minimised as far as possible, and the line was clear, again in a reasonable time k
