RECEPTION SPEECHES
"Disappointed" suggests that public men, whose duty it is from time to time to introduce distinguished visitors, should remember that the public wish to hear the guest. At a recent reception introductory speeches took so much time that the guest had to shorten' his speech. A number of people. left during the course of the address presumably to enable them to return to their employment before their lunch hour expired.
The following appointments to the Council of Legal Education were gazetted last night:—The Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, and his Honour Mr. Justice Callan; Mr. W. H. Cocker and Mr. A. H. Johnstone, representing the Council of the New Zealand Law Society; Professor R. O. McGechan and Professor A. G. Davis, representing the Senate of the University of New Zealand.
