LONDON, July 8. The Allies have about 900,000 troops stationed in North Africa and the Middle East in preparation for a land assault against southern Europe, says the Berlin news agency, reviewing invasion prospects m the Mediterranean. The news agency adds that the* forces include about 44 infantry divisions, 15 to 20 tank formations, two airborne divisions, and some paratroop battalions.

Allied shipping tonnage in the Mediterranean has been considerably reinforced in the past week. There is an especially striking concentration of several hundreds of thousands of tons of shipping at Port Said. The news agency says the Italians and Germans are closely observing all movements and taking the necessary measures.
