16 KILLED IN CRASH
Rec. 1.30 pan. , LONDON, July 5. Sixteen persons were killed when the Liberator in which General Sikorski was travelling crashed. It is now known that the passengers totalled 11 and that there was a crew of six, including the Czech pilot who is the sole survivor. General Sikorski's daughter Sophie, aged 29, who was aboard the plane, was in charge of the Polish Red Cross. She was the wife of a Polish officer who was reported missing during the Polish campaign. :
The Press Association's diplomatic writer says that General Sikorski's death will affect Russo-Polish relations, as he was one of the few members of the. Polish Government in London in which the Soviet had confidence.
President Roosevelt received an Independence Day message, from General Sikorski which was dispatched just prior to the fatal accident. In his message General Sikorski expressed confidence that victory for the United Nations would soon be achieved.
