TEA AND SUGAR

In accordance with the Public Notice issued by the Rationing: Controller (Mr. J. E. Thomas) in May last, coupons numbers 33 to 36 inclusive are available for tea and sugar this month. There is no change in the amounts of the rations, which remain at 31b of sugar and Boz of tea per month to each ration-book holder until further notice.

quarter-clothing coupon, together with one E coupon, for each ounce. This means that the retailer is required to out out quarter-clothing coupon for each ounce of knitting wool supplied, and at the same.time cancel or cut out one E coupon from the same ration book in respect to each ounce. Only 12 of the E coupons, Nos. 1 to 12, are available for this purpose. Baby wool will continue to be purchased with the special "expectant mother" coupons. The scheme also excludes wool in service colours, purchased on next-of-kin and armed services coupons. The Rationing Controller stated that supplies of wool coming on to the market at the present time were being purchased largely by those who were able to shop when releases were being made by retailers. Under the new system, a better opportunity would be given to mothers and other necessitous cases,' of securing some part of their essential needs.
