HERE AND THERE
Victoria league. The Victoria League's monthly buffet luncheon will take place tomorrow at 12.30 p.m. in the league rooms. French Club. Members of the Cercle• Francais of Lower Hutt, under the direction of Madame de Filippi, provided the entertainment at last week's meeting of the club. The evening was devoted to Moliere, the best loved of all French dramatists, and three amusing extracts from various plays were excellently acted by Mrs, Craig Mackenzie and Madame de Filippi, the Misses Helen Riddell, D. Patterson, and McClymont, Professor Boyd-Wilson, and Mr. Peter Jenkins. The-three scenes were each preceded by an appropriate commentary given by Madame de Filippi, Mrs. McLeod, and Miss K. McCaul respectively. Miss Ruth' Reid, accompanied on the piano by Miss Norah Gray, played violin solos. Madame Logic conducted the conversation circle, and Madame Bendall was hostess. Next Thursday, the University students will present the French version of "Charley's Aunt," Clothes For Russians. j At the recent meeting" of the Brooklyn Townwomen's Guild a successful clothes drive was held for the benefit of Russian war sufferers. The guest speaker was Miss Lloyd, who toured Germany four weeks before the- outbreak of war. She related some of her interesting experiences. Musical items were provided by Mrs. Beswick and the' glee circle.
