AXIS HOAX

"INVASION DAY"

LONDON, July. 3,

After weeks of Axis, propaganda ■ naming today as the date fixed for an ■ Allied invasion of the Continent, the Nazi-controlled Paris radio treated the ■ whole matter as a burlesque. Abrupt- . ly changing its tune, the station kept plugging sarcastically, saying that the Allies had not come.

The "Evening Standard" suggests ■ that the naming of today as the invasion date was an Axis hoax designed to make the French believe that they had been let down. The 8.8.C.. in a • broadcast to France, said: "Today is the day; Goebbels has elected for .an ■ Allied invasion, but there are many : ; days: for an invasion before the leaves of autumn fall."
