He was educated at Hataitai School and Wellington College,' and later attended Victoria University College,'where he was taking a science course. He waswell known. in Evans Bay as the skipper- of the Patsy. SiibLieut. Watts left New Zealand in July, 1941,: for service in ;■ the '''Royal'- ■Navy. After gaining "his commission .he ? went to the motor launch patrol section and saw much service in .the Channel and North.Sea areas.
