AUSTRALIAN ELECTION
SYDNEY, July 2. "It is my prayer that the people of this country will judge not only patriotically but also wisely in. whatever choice they make," said the Prime Minister, Mr. J. Curtin,'in closing Australia's sixteenth Federal Parliament. "I hope the new Government will be sn strong that it will be able to administer the affairs of this nation wiih decision. A great task lies before us. I pray that victory will come speedily." Trie Prime Minister paid a tribute to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. A. W. Fadden, $vho, he said, had always treated him with "the greatest consideration and immeasurable generosrly." Mr. Fadden replied that Mr. Curtin's position as -Prime Minister had been "most "onerous, responsible, and exacting." That the position had been unsatisfactory was due to tha e.'ectors themselves, and at the forthcoming elec^ tions it was to be hopad the electors would give a definite mandate to -a Government that would' have sufficient strength to carry it out.
