VETO SUPPORTED

FOOD SUBSIDIES IN U.S.A.

LONDON, July 2. In a message to Congress, President Roosevelt has vetoed the Food Sub-f sidies Bill.- A correspondent says that the President declared the Bill an inflationax'y bill, a high-cosl-of-living bill, a food shortage bill, and said it would make it impossible for the Government to stop tho cost of living from going up. Under it, the housewife would have to pay more for butter and meat and the measure would have a devastating effect on U.S, economy and-war-effort. The President held up Britain as an example of how limited subsidies could be used to control inflation. A Washington message says s that the House of Representatives has upheld the Presidents veto. This automatic* ally kills the bill. ,
