MINISTER'S STATEMENT
Owing to a, typist's; error •■ the - statement made yesterday by the 'Minister of Labour (Mr. Webb)^regarding work on the waterfront contained a misstatement in the I'brm in which-it -was supplied to "The Post."::-, Ofte sentence read: "No reliable figures are: available as to the rate, of work ■ prior to the introduction of the co-operative contracting system, but from "the figures obtainable it is estimated that work has increased by "25 per cent, under contract." The words "rate of work" should have read "cost; of work;"
In' further comment on the subject of- waterfront work the Minister' stated last night that for security reasons the report of the Waterfront.Control Commission was discontinued* and:for the same reason there were difficulties in the way of his.making public certain figures concerning the • Commission's operations. An open invitation -was extended to editors and any responsible citizen, however, to inspect, the? records of : the Commission -at its office. - "If advantage is taken of this invitation," said the Minister, "I am convinced adequate proof will be 'obtained as'to the claims I have made in connection with waterfront' work."
