BUDGET DEBATE OVER
ADJOURNMENT TO BETAKEN
The Budget debate, which extended over fourteen sitting days, concluded in the House of Representatives last evening when the Minister of Finance (Mr. Nash) made his reply. Sixty-four speakers, in addition to Mr. Nash, took part in the debate, 41 of them being from the Government side, 19 from the National Party, and four Independents.
During the afternoon the debate on the Finance Bill No. 2 was continued and this measure was put through the i%emaining stages and passed without amendment.'
Before the House rose last evening until this morning Mr. Nash, in the absence of the Prime Minister (Mr. FraseiO, said it was proposed to take an adjournment from this evening until July 20. No further legislation would be introduced until then. Several Bills were in the course of preparation and one, the Land and Income Tax Bill, could have been submitted before the adjournment, but he wanted to get all the money in from the Liberty Loan before he brought that measure down.
