MR. WILLIAM MCKEN2IE
P.A. CARTERTON, Tins Day. Cable advice from Melbourne received by his relatives at Carterton announces the^'death of Mr. William McKenzie,,well* known. in_,fpotball circles as "Offside""Mac."" • Thel'ateTMr. McKenzie was -born .at Parkyale, Carterton, in'lß69. . Early in his youth he took up football and soon made his mark. He was chosen to represent New Zealand against Australia in 1893 and was in the New Zealand teams, of 1894,. 1896, and 1897. During .this period he won fame as a wing-forward. In 1903 he joined the staff of the "Wairarapa Leader," which was later absorbed by the "Wairarapa Daily News." After some years he joined "The Dominion," Wellington, as.circulation manager and organiser. He-later took up an appointment with the "New; Zealand Herald," and subsequently went to Australia.
With the man-power shortage he took up a position with the "Melbourne. Age" and held this at his death.' His brothers in New Zealand are '.Messrs'. E. McKenzie (the All Black selector). Jack and Herbert, all of Carterton, and Norman, Hawke's Bay (also a former New Zealand . selector). Mr. McKenzie leaves two sons, Lieut. Alan McKenzie, Royal Navy, and Roger, who is in Melbourne. " ;
