ARMY CLASSES

REGRET AT DISCONTINUANCE

No indication has yet been received that the Army authorities intend to continue using the educational facilities made available at the Wellington Technical College, and the director of the college, Mr. R. G. Ridling, said m his report to the Board of Governors last evening that it was regrettable that the classes, for which the school time-table had to be reorganised, had been discontinued. At the beginning of the year the time-table for the high school was arranged to provide for full-time training in engineering and building subjects under the Army Education Welfare Scheme. Each course was limited to five weeks on instruction, much of which was carried out in the workshops. Two classes operated, and the second finished on June 1. Since then no indication had been received from the Army Education Welfare Scheme that it intended to take advantage of the facilities available for them, said Mr. Ridling. The organisation of the time-table to provide for these classes required high school students to commence at 8 a.m. This arrangement could not be changed without a complete reconstruction of the whole time-table. It was, therefore, regrettable that the classes had been discontinued. Unless the Army intended to re-establish them, however, he would make the necessary readjustments in the time-table after the halfyearly examinations. This would, of course, prevent the re-establishment of classes this year.
