ENEMY SHIPS ATTACKED
RESULTS IN DOUBT Rec. 2 p.m. RUGBY, June 27. Beauflghters escorted by Spitfires attacked south-bound enemy shipping off the Dutch coast today. Three escort vessels were probably damaged and one supply ship was possibly damaged. The observer of a Beaufighter said that there was heavy, flak and that accurate observation was difficult, but dense smoke was seen pouring from two armed escorts. A Beaufighter pilot who reported that he hit the superstructure of an escort vessel said that large chunks of. wreckage flew up. Another pilot stated that he raked two merchantmen with cannon fire and then attacked again with his guns from 100 feet. Spitfires reported that they hit ■* every enemy fighter that was seen near the convoy. It is officially stated that our fighters destroyed two and severely damaged others. Another enemy plane was destroyed off the sfouth-east coast of England this morning. One of our planes is missipg.— 8.0. W.
