TOUR OF DOMINION
GENERAL FREYBERG Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C, will pay brief visits to centres in both North and South Islands, subject to changing exigencies of the war situation. "Civic receptions," said the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) in a statement last night, "will be accorded General Freyberg on Monday evening next at Christchurch, at Invercargill on Tuesday evening, and at Dunedin on Wednesday evening. "On the return journey from Invercargill be will go to Dunedin by train, and at scheduled stops, where time allows, will informally meet the local people on the platform. On Thursday next week the General will journey from Dunedin to Christchurch by the express, and the same procedure as between Invercargill and Dunedin will be observed at scheduled stops. He will arrive back in Wellington on Friday, July 2, and will be engaged in consultations with the Government and service authorities. Sunday afternoon, July 4, General Freyberg will fly to ; New Plymouth, where he will stay overnight. Arrangements are being imade for a brief civic welcome on Monday morning, July 5, after which the General will proceed by rail-car to Palmerston North, calling at Wanganui en route, and at stations along the line. His itinerary on Tuesday will be Palmerston North to Masterton by air, and from Masterton to Napier by railcar, with station stops. On Wednesday he will go by air from . Napier to Rotorua, via Gisborne, arriving at Rotorua either in time for lunch or in the early afternoon. His stay at Rotorua will extend till Friday moming, July 9, when he will proceed overiland to Auckland. A full detailed itinerary for the information of all the people concerned in each district will be issued later. "It will be seen from this outline," continued' the Prime Minister, "that i every effort has been made in the time lat Sir Bernard Freyberg's disposal for I him to visit or pass through as many localities as possible in both islands. None more than the Government and General Freyberg himself regrets the impossibility of an even more comprehensive tour. In particular, it is a matter of very great regret that it has been found impossible for him to visit the West Coast, Nelson, Marlborough, King Country, Bay of Plenty, or North Auckland, but I feel sure that the people of those districts will realise that their exclusion from his itinerary was rendered inevitable by the time factor."
