SETTLEMENT OF DISPUTES

Several amendments to the Strike and Lockout Emergency Regulations are notified in the Gazette. The Minister of Labour is now empowered to appoint emergency dispute committees by writing instead of by notice in the Gazette as previously. Failure of any member of the committee to attend a meeting of such committee is made an offence against the regulations. The committee is also empowered, where it is found necessary, to summon witnesses, to take evidence on oath. Any witness giving evidence in pursuance of such summons will have the same privileges and immunities as a witness in a court of law.
