MR. WARD WITHDRAWS
"BRISBANE LINE" INCIDENT (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright.) Rec. 9 a.m. CANBERRA, June 24. Mr. J. Curtin announced in the House of Representatives tonight that a Royal Commission would be appointed to inquire into Mr. E. J. Ward's allegations regarding a missing document relating to the "Brisbane Line," and that pending the report Mr. Ward would be relieved of his administrative duties. Mr. Curtin said he would confer with Mr. A. W. Fadden regarding the personnel of the commission and the terms of reference. Mr. Ward in the House of Representatives today withdrew unreservedly his allegation that an important document regarding the "Brisbane Line" was missing from the official files of the War Cabinet. After a conference with Mr. Curtin and Mr. F. M. Forde, Mr. Ward said he was satisfied that the document was still in existence. "I received an assurance from Mr. Curtin that no document is missing from the file, and I unreservedly accept that assurance," said Mr. Ward.
