DE GAULLE LOSING GROUND?
NEW YORK, June 24. "Informed diplomatic circles in Washington believe that General de Gaulle is losing ground in the struggle against General Giraud for the French command," says the Associated Press. "These authorities believe that the British are on the eve of abandoning General de Gaulle. The British representatives in the United States have been instructed to adopt a neutral policy." The Associated Press adds that the British, as well as the Americans, believe that General de Gaulle has attempted unsuccessfully to stage a political coup to make himself the sole and absolute master of the Fighting French. The British are represented as feeling that if they continue to support General de Gaulle against the Ameri-can-backed Giraud, Anglo-American relations would be undermined.
