U-BOAT OFFENSIVE
TALK OF NEW METHODS Rec. 11.30 a.m. LONDON, June 24. New offensive methods would be introduced into Germany's submarine warfare, the Nazi naval spokesman told neutral correspondents in Berlin. New types, he said, were being built as the enemy was two familiar with the old type. In ar article surveying the Battle of the Atlantic, the naval writer of the "Yorkshire Post" says: "The Germans claim to have sunk only 43,000 tons of shipping in the first 20 days of June, whereas they claimed 227.000 tons for a similar period last month. The figure of 43,000 tons is even more remarkable when compared with June, 1942, when the Germans claimed to have sunk 755,000 tons of shipping. It must be remembered that all these figures are German and were computed specifically for general publication. Hitherto the Germans have always exaggerated, and generally grossly so, but whether this policy of exaggeration is being changed or not, such a remarkable drop in the achievements of their U-boats will be a difficult matter for Diy Goebbels to explain to his public."
