SOVIET ATTACK
EXPECTED IN BERLIN
MASSING OF FORCES
(By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright.) (Rec. 10 a.m.) LONDON, May 19. German reconnaissance has established that large concentrations of Russian armour and troop units have been made in the Moscow sector and also in the region of the Kuban, says Vichy radio. It is believed in Berlin that the Russians will shortly launch a large-scale attack in both sectors, particularly against the new German positions west of Krymskaya. , Great air battles continue in the Kuban, where the Germans have brought in new squadrons from the Crimean airports, but the Russians still retain the initiative. The "Red Star" reports that the Germans lost 500 planes in the past three weeks on this front, not counting planes destroyed on the ground. The losses included numerous fighters of the latest types. The Russians at Lisichansk bridgehead, under cover of an artillery barrage, have reinforced defence lines which were captured from the Germans.
