RAILWAYMEN'S PROTEST

The Wellington branch of the Engine Drivers, Firemen, and Cleaners' Association, at a meeting today, unanimously adopted a resolution deploring the action of the Railway Department in running special extra expresses and race trains over Easter, "thereby mafe> ing additional work for already overtaxed locomotive men." The resolur, tion said that, while appreciating the necessity for essential workers being granted holidays, the association did not consider that this should have been done at the expense- of railwaymen, who, wer,e also working long hours, under adverse conditions.' The branch will ask the-executive council of the association to take immediate steps to procure some relief.for its members by obtaining a considerable reduction in. Sunday services and a refusal to grant permission for the running of race or additional trains for pleasure-seekei*s.
