REPENTANCE FIRST
i Preaching at, St., Thomas's, Church yesterday, the Rev. Andrews-Baxter suggested that it might have been better had the various heads of the churches called the people to a month's repentance at first before launching a day of prayer. Jit might be asked whether we were really a Christian empire «or not. At any rate, we would be; fighting this war in vain, as we did the last one, for the Empire did not emerge suffljciently Christian to build on the security of justice and selflessness a peace which would ensure for all time. The . Xew Zealand superintendent for Dalgety and Co., Ltd., has received cable advice that the board. of directors ; has declared an interim dividend of 2s 6d per share, less British Income tax, being at the rate of 5 per cent, per annum, less British income tax. The dividend will be payable Mny 27. At a recent national ballot of the A.S.R.S., Mr. J. H. Terry, of Frankton Junction, was elected president for the next two years.
