"NOT COMMUNIST"
Mr. Carl ton J. Hayes, United States Ambassador to Spain, , speaking at Madrid recently on American war aims, said: "There can be no negotiated peace. The war must be fought to a finish." | "Here in Spain," said Mr. Hayes, "Axis propaganda factories produce the most terrifying pictures of the consequences of an Allied victory—intervention on behalf of some minority, resumption of the civil war, a reign of chaos and terrorism, and the triumph of Marxian Communism. "The United States is not Communist. Great Britain is not Communist, Brazil is not Communist. Among the great majority of the United Nations the number of Communists and sympathisers with Communism is very slight." "The best guarantee against Communism for any Government which does not voluntarily choose it is a Government able to maintain order and provide for the material needs of the people. Among the United Nations are the world's granary depots for supplying just those needs at the end of1 the present war."
