MALTA SWEEPSTAKE WON
LONDON, April 28,
Malta Spitfires this morning destroyed two enemy aircraft, bringing the total score of the R.A.F. at Malta to Squadron Leader John Lynch, California, shot down the thousandth enemy plane, thereby winning the island sweepstake, which was worth £129. He intends giving a consolation prize to a newcomei*, Pilot Officer Anthony Osborne, a 20-year-old Englishman, who shot down another Junkers two minutes later. It was Lynch's ninth and Osborne's first success. Lynch said: "It gave us a nice appetite for breakfast."
