Forgotten Silk Stockings. At the opening of a three-days sale of lost property, held in England recently by tlie Southern Railway, umbrellas and women's handbags were only a third of those sold at the last sale. Against this evidence of a less forgetful wartime public, 50. pairs of new silk stockings were a mystery. Sailors left.a few little things behind them. . Forty-two forgot their undervests, four their trousers, and 50 their dickies. Lord Woolton's Challenge. Lord Woolton recently challenged the 300,000 members of the National Federation of Women's Institutes to get people to eat potatoes instead of bread. A London meeting of the-insti-tutes which he addressed, promptly agreed. . ■ Rongotai Townswomen. Tlie second annual meeting of the Rongotai Townswomen's Guild was held recently and was well attended. The«report read by the hon. secretary revealed, the success of the preceding year. , Mrs. Albert, chairman of the Dominion Federation Executive, outlined he scheme for area federation. •The election of committee resulted as follows:—Chairman, Mrs. A. J. Heron (re-elected); vice-chairman, Mrs. W. J. ! Stevens; hon. secretary, Mrs. R. Downie; hon. treasurer, Mrs. R. Goldfinch (re-elected); and Mesdames A'Court, Colquhoun; Godkin, Hill, Inkersel, and Symonds. Mrs. D. Rough was re-elected to the N.C.W,, and Mesdames Heron and Downie delegates to the Area Federation. | Welsh Society. | A successful year of social activities was reported at the annual meeting of the Welsh Society. These activities included the entertaining of many Welshmen of the Merchant Navy and sons of Welsh 'Citizens in the U.S.A. Mr. John Tucker was elected president, Mr. S. Griffiths and Mrs. E. A. McLeod vice-presidents, and Mr. jNoel Evans auditor.
