*■- Action to check the sale of shoddy footwear was announced by the Controller of Footwear on Saturday. Nearly 2,000,000 pairs of boots and shoes produped annually in Australia are not fit to-'stand repairing by the average bootrtta'ker, said the controller. He added that the Rationing Commission had based, its footwear planning on the calculation that all boots and shoes could be repaired at least twice. As a further deterrent to .inferior construction the manufacturer must stamp each pair.
