(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON. March 19 '.'•The' American tanks which fanned out from Gafsa in a 12 miles advance to El Guetar are threatening to outflank the Afrika Korps ill the Mareth Line position. The latest advance was made under a screen of bombers and fighters which heavily attacked the retreating Italians.
Reuters correspondent on the Gafsa front says - that General Montgomery tricked the Germans -with the Eighth Army's local activity on March 16 and 17. The Germans switqhed. the Luftwaffe to the south, resulting in a comglete absence of air opposition when ie Allies occupied Gafsa. Reuter says the Eighth Army's adjustments along the Mareth Line today are "in keeping with the previous day's improvement of its positions. Berlin radio said tonight: "Apart from lively patrol activity by 'both sides, Rommel's front is quiet."
