OUTLOOK FOR SUMMER
BAKU AS GERMAN
OBJECTIVE?
(Rec. 9.45.a.m.) LONDON, Mar. 19,
Mr. Negley Farson, commenting in the "Daily Mail" on the Russian situation and the present position between the two armies, says: "The Russian artillery, even from the beginning, has always been superior to the German. The Russian infantry with bayonet are also superior ;to the Germans, similarly armed. As for tank warfare, the Russians in this field appear to be getting on equal terms with the enemy.
"The outlook for this coming summer will, I think, be determined by weight of numbers and control of railway communications. The Germans have already retaken Kharkov, ' which is such a vital rail keypoint. The question now is: Will they again be able to bring up superior numbers against the Russians? It may be conjecture, but of this I am certain: unhampered by Hitler, the German High Command will stake its all upon being able to take the v ßaku oil away from the Russians this year. The capture of Moscow would only make the Russians fight more desperately. Without oil. the Red Army could not fight at all."
