WINDFALL APPLES

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 11. Following severe storms in Christ- * church on Wednesday and over' the weekend which caused some damage to orchards, a windfall grade of apple will be accepted locally this season, stated Mr. A. R. Grainger, Government orchard inspector. This applies with the following conditions:—(l) That the apples are in all other respects extra fancy, fancy, or commercial grade, and that those which have fallen to the ground owing to mouldy core, insect injury, etc., are excluded; (2) that the quality and condition of the fruit are suitable for dessert and culinary purposes; (3) that the-apples are free from excessive bruising and abrasions which are likely to develop serious decay rapidly.
