VICEREGAL. I Government House, Wellington, March 3. His Excellency the Governor-General presided at a meeting of the Executive Council this morning. His Excellency the Governor of Fiji, attended by Captain S. H. Abbott, has arrived at Government House. Mr. J. T. Martin returned to Wellington today from Auckland. The Hon. P. K. Paikea, Minister in Charge of the Maori War Effort, arrived today from Auckland. Mr. A. S. Sutherland, M.P., chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, is visiting Wellington. Mr. K. M. Poulton, of the "Evening Post" was re-elected chairman of the Parliamentary Press Gallery at its annual meeting yesterday, and Mr. C. T. C. Watson, of the "Dominion," was elected vice-chairman. Mr. Alec Best, of the Upper Moutere, Nelson, is visiting Wellington. An informal farewell was accorded at a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board to Captain John Weir Burgess, chief pilot for Tasman Empire Airways since the company's inception in 1939. Captain Burgess will leave New Zealand shortly for America to take up a post with British Oyerseas Airways in Baltimore, and his wife and two children will travel with him. His place, a Press Association message states, is tq be taken by Captain Oscar Garden, second pilot of the company.
