NAVAL AWARDS
• The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) has been advised of the following awards to New Zealanders serving in the Royal Navy:—
Distinguished Service Cross.—Temporary Acting Sub-Lieutenant (A) John Alexander Cramp, R.N.Z.N.V.R.; Temporary Sub-Lieutenant (A) Alexander Brunt, R.N.Z.N.V.R.; Acting Temporary Lieutenant-Commander (A) Arthur Bevan Napper, R.N.Z.N.V.R. Mentioned in Dispatches—Temporary Sub-Lieutenant (A) Andrew Scott -Long, R.N.Z.N.V.R.
, Two small fire.s were speedily extinguished by the Fire Brigade last night before much damage had been done. One, at 5.2 p.m., occurred in a lift motor in the Land and Income Tax Department premises in Courtenay Place, and the other, at 7.30 p.m., was in a house at 12 Hay Street, Oriental Bay, where a defect in the wiring of an electric stove set fire to adjacent iwallboard.
Reginald James Vercoe Bradley was sentenced to a month's imprisonment by Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M., at Upper Hutt yesterday on a charge of stealing .£ radio set.
